Dramaturgy & PaR
“We are invested in the development and vision of Practice as Research culture within Live Art, Theatre and Performance Studies. Not only do we endeavour to make high impact practice-led work, we strive to expand the frameworks and pedagogy of artist-scholarship as evidenced by our book Performing Proximity, our forthcoming book Performance Making: Curious Methods and our ongoing teaching practice.”
Dramaturgy & PaR
Curious have worked as directors and dramaturgs for a range of performances as well as acting in a consultant capacity to other artists. Curious employ extensive dramaturgy in their own work, which not only informs the investigations and explorations behind their projects but often manifests as discrete research outputs. In tandem with this, Curious maintain an ongoing and dedicated commitment to Practice as Research (PaR), offering a range of consultancies and courses on artistic research and PaR.
As more students achieve practice led research degrees at the Masters and Doctoral level, artist-scholars need to uphold rigorous standards in creative and critical work, including a clear articulation of methodologies, explicit conversations with the wider field, and demonstrable impact. Helen Paris and Leslie Hill work with students and colleagues to help articulate the dynamism of the arts and humanities in knowledge production, fusing artistic research with academic discourse and creating bespoke methodologies that draw on but challenge convention.
